David Packard Corenswet talks about the ‘very Superman’ wisdom passed down by Cavill and Hoechlin

David Packard Corenswet is bracing himself for the release of DC's Superman where he plays the titular superhero. The film is slated to be released by Warner Bros. Pictures on July 11, 2025. James Gunn has written and directed this film and it will start Chapter One: Gods and Monsters of the DCU.

Corenswet recently spoke about the wisdom he received from Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin, two actors who previously donned the superhero costume.

David Packard Corenswet revealed that he spoke to Henry Cavill (who has starred in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League) and Tyler Hoechlin (Superman & Lois). Corenswet revealed that he exchanged letters with the two about how to play the superhero. He said,

“I had the pleasure of exchanging letters with two previous Supermans, Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin. They were very encouraging and we had a lovely exchange and I’m excited to meet them one day. It’ll be great when we can all get in a room together. Both of them, interestingly, sort of said in their own words, ‘I’m not gonna try to give you any tips.’ And I think that’s a very Superman thing.”

He added,

“They really just conveyed to me an encouragement and a sense of, you know, have fun with it. Which I think is Superman’s way of doing it too.”

In December 2022, Cavill revealed that he would not be returning as the Man of Steel just months after Gunn and Safran joined DC Studios as its chief. Cavill said,

"I have just had a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran and it's sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn't the easiest, but that's life."

While fans of Cavill and Zack Snyder's versions of films were reportedly sad, Gunn wanted to do an overhaul of the DCU and introduce new faces for the characters. David Packard Corenswet starrer Superman will be released on July 11, 2025.
