Drake, Adin Ross, and the company Stake have been sued in a class-action lawsuit for allegedly promoting online gambling. The filing against Stake includes allegations against its parent company, Sweepstakes Limited.

The case was filed in Missouri by Justin Killham. According to Hot New Hip Hop, the three legal entities are being accused of glamorizing an addictive product, as well as of steering commercial traffic to Stake's website. They are also accused of engaging in unfair and deceptive business practices.

A portion of the lawsuit is quoted below, which enumerates the allegations against Drake and Adin Ross:

“Drake’s role as Stake’s unofficial mascot is quietly corrosive—he’s glamorizing the platform to millions of impressionable fans, many of whom treat his wild betting habits like gospel. What makes it even more unsettling is that Stake apparently fronts Drake and Ross ‘house money,’ so any reported losses are part of a marketing tactic designed to draw attention."

The lawsuit then goes on to accuse Drake, Adin Ross, and Stake of threatening the welfare of Missouri residents, including young people:

"Stake’s influencer marketing, especially through Drake and Ross, is directed, among others, at teenagers in Missouri and in other states. Stake's and Drake's and Ross's conduct here threatens the welfare of Missouri residents and especially its young people...”

In another portion of the lawsuit, Stake is accused of deceptive rebranding to circumvent Missouri's gambling laws, including the prohibition against online gambling casinos:

"Stake.us is a virtual clone of Stake.com, rebranded to mislead Missouri regulators and consumers into believing it offers harmless gameplay instead of an unlawful gambling platform."

Drake, Adin Ross, and Stake have also been accused of using any viral losses as a marketing tactic, with the company allegedly fronting the rapper and the streamer's 'house money' to bet on the gambling games, rather than using their own money. This allegation is made clear in the following quoted sections:

"Defendants knew that they took this money wrongfully, given their fraudulent intent and Missouri’s statewide ban on online casino gambling."

The lawsuit asks for Drizzy, Adin Ross, and Stakes to be held responsible for the gambling losses suffered by people. Alongside the penalties for breaking Missouri state laws.

The new class-action lawsuit comes amidst the background of a wider backlash against the sweepstakes model of gambling. Stake, in particular, is already embroiled in another lawsuit filed against it in California for allegedly offering illegal sweepstakes. The lawsuit in California was filed by Brayden Urban.

Other states in the US are also tightening legislation and cracking down on online gambling, particularly in the sweepstakes model. A class action lawsuit was filed against Stakes in the Alabama Federal Court. There has been a similar lawsuit in Illinois as well. The Michigan Gaming Control Board has also been issuing cease and desist orders against offshore sites accepting wagers without being licensed.

Drake has lost a lawsuit against UMG

The rapper lost his lawsuit against UMG, which he had been fighting since January 2025. The lawsuit was dismissed by Judge Jeannette Vargas. The judge dismissed the lawsuit on the basis that public statements and songs made during the heat of a feud by Kendrick Lamar did not constitute actionable accusations and therefore could not be construed as defamation.

The lawsuit dismissal was welcomed by UMG, and their representatives have stated that they want to go back to working with the rapper like always. UMG had filed the motion to dismiss the lawsuit in March 2025. The rapper's representatives have indicated that they will appeal the lawsuit dismissal decision.
