Marvel pushes Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars release dates to December 2026 and 2027

Avengers: Doomsday has been reportedly one of the most anticipated films among the fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film will mark the return of the Russo brothers in the franchise to the director's chair. It will also feature Robert Downey Jr., who was previously Tony Stark/Iron Man, playing a new character: Doctor Doom.

Both Doomsday and its sequel, Secret Wars, have gone through a change in release dates. Fans will have to wait a little longer for both of these films. Doomsday will feature superhero from the X-Men as well as the Fantastic Four universe. So let us look into the new release dates of these films.

Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars get new release dates

Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were earlier slated to release by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures on May 1, 2026, and May 7, 2027, respectively. These two films will now drop on the big screen on December 18, 2026, and December 17, 2027.

Doomsday will be released on the same day as Dune: Messiah. It is the 39th entry in the MCU and the fifth Avengers film in the franchise. Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron are the writers, while Kevin Feige, Joe, and Anthony Russo are the producers. The storyline will focus on several superhero teams, including X-Men, Fantastic Four, Wakandans, and others teaming up to face off against Doctor Doom.

Robert Downey Jr. recasting in the MCU attracted attention last year when he was unveiled as Doctor Doom. In the earlier phase of the series, he was Iron Man, who died after stopping Thanos in Endgame. It would be interesting to see how the makers justify his reappearance as the villain in the forthcoming film.
