After racing to success as one of the year’s sleeper hits, F1: The Movie now has a digital streaming release date. Apple TV+ has confirmed that the film will be available on its platform starting December 12, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for the tech giant’s expanding movie division, with the film expected to attract both new fans of the sport and the cast.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick, the film quickly became one of the box office surprises of the year. Released in tune, it went on to earn more than $629 million, becoming one of the most successful sports dramas of all time and a career high for Brad Pitt.
Produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, Pitt, Kosinski, and Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton, F1: The Movie was filmed during actual Grand Prix weekends. The story follows a veteran driver who returns to the track to mentor a rookie while facing his own fading legacy. Alongside Pitt, the film stars Damson Idris, Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, and Kim Bodnia.
As F1: The Movie gears up for its digital lap on December 12, Apple is betting that Pitt’s high-octane charm and Kosinski’s sleek direction will keep the momentum roaring into awards season.
What is F1: The Movie about?

F1: The Movie follows the comeback story of Brad Pitt's Sonny Hayes, a has-been, brilliant Formula One prodigy who crashed out of glory in 1993. After three decades, he returns to the racetrack, after being a racer-for-hire chasing the ghost of his former greatness, who gets hired by his old teammate, Rubén Cervantes, to race for his team APXGP. The team is under immense pressure after losing most of the season’s races, and Cervantes holds onto the hope that Hayes is the only one who can restore its glory.
At Silverstone, Sonny meets APXGP’s ambitious rookie Joshua Pearce, technical director Kate McKenna, and a team running on fumes. Despite his rust, Sonny quickly diagnoses their flawed machinery and helps rebuild the car’s maneuverability. But his relationship with Joshua doesn't get any better. As tensions rise, Joshua’s arrogance drives a wedge between them, though Kate’s quiet leadership and a late-night poker game help thaw the rivalry. When Sonny learns his old injuries could kill him if he keeps racing, he hides the truth and returns to the track for one final fight.
A treat for Formula One fans in the film was the appearance of many high-profile real-life drivers, including the likes of Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton, and Carlos Sainz. It's a film that wonderfully brings the sport to life for fans and is now all set to dazzle audiences in the comfort of their homes.
F1: The Movie will be available to stream on Apple TV from December 12, 2025.
