Veteran professional wrestling star Mike Rotunda is currently in hospice care, according to statements from his longtime friend and former tag-team partner Barry Windham. Windham made the disclosure in an interview with journalist Bill Apter, saying,

"It’s kind of tough right now. You know, Mike is in hospice right now. So, anyway, that family — I love that family. But, it’s so tragic."

At this moment, no public official from WWE or Rotunda's camp has released full details about his health condition or what led to this decision.

Mike Rotunda's background and family context

Mike Rotunda was known in the ring as "I.R.S." (Irwin R. Schyster) and performed as a successful tag team member of the "U.S. Express." He also wrestled with Ted DiBiase as a tag team known as "Money Inc.," ultimately winning multiple championships in WWE.

In his personal life, Mike Rotunda is married to the Windham family. His wife is Stephanie Windham, who is the sister of wrestler Barry Windham. Rotunda is the father of many children which including Windham Rotunda, best recognized as "Bray Wyatt," who passed away in August 2023 at age 36. Mike is also the father of Taylor Rotunda, who recently wrestled under the names "Bo Dallas," as well as "Uncle Howdy" and is still involved in the wrestling business. Because of family connections and his own contribution, Mike Rotunda is a recognized name to wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans.

What is the hospice care update?

When Barry Windham expressed that "Mike is in hospice right now," he was indicating a dire circumstance for Mike Rotunda. Windham also asked fans, those in the wrestling business, to keep Rotunda and his family in their thoughts and prayers.

"Well, it's been a great ride. And I would like for you all to pray for Mike."

As of now, a specific illness or diagnosis has not been confirmed publicly. The reports say Windham did not disclose what made Rotunda go into hospice. Moreover, another wrestling personality, Leilani Kai, made a social media post stating,

"It breaks my heart to share that my friend Mike Rotunda has been placed under hospice care."

The timing of this news comes after the already terrible times for the Rotunda family with the death of Bray Wyatt in 2023. Many theorize that this likely also explains why Taylor/Bo Dallas has been largely absent from WWE television programming.

There has not been a formal medical or family statement released, so the full details of the situation have not been made public. We do not know the specific illness, when it began to deteriorate, if it will be terminal, or the family's plans, if any. We do not know what this indescribable period will do to Rotunda's public-facing, or if and when WWE or anyone else will announce further details.

The news that Mike Rotunda has entered hospice care is serious and heavy for fans. He has worked in wrestling for decades, and his family has been synonymous with the industry. Many followers within the wrestling community are following closely. In addition to the basic information, much of this remains unknown in a private way, and we may not know until the family decides to announce.
