Kendrick Lamar released his single, Not Like Us, back on May 4, 2024. The song is a diss track aimed at Drake during his beef with the Canadian rapper. It went on to win the Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Music Video, respectively, at the 2025 Grammy Awards earlier this year. Now Hit-Boy has revealed that Lamar congratulated him for his son's music video on the same day that Not Like Us was released. Hit-Boy revealed this during an appearance on iHeart Radio's Breakfast Club. The video podcast episode was released on September 19, 2025:"I be chopping him with, bro, man. That's why I be telling people, man, it's crazy. So my little my son, he 5 years old now. Before his fourth birthday, he made a uh he made a song. He made his first song cuz he was in most of the sessions with me and Nas just sitting in the back. Didn't realize he was taking this all in."Hit-Boy continued:"Told him, you know, I asked him did he want to make a song for his birthday. Put him on the mic. He literally freestyle with context. I was laughing. It was crazy. But put the song out with a video. And I think it was the day not like us dropped."Hit-Boy added:"And that's how I knew Kendrick was just like this was light work for him. this whole sh*t like he text me about my son video like go ahead nephew like you know what I mean he you know what I mean it's like bro like in the middle of all that.. he crazy he really crazy that's what's up he cool though."Kendrick Lamar's influence on Hit-BoyThis is not the first time Hit-Boy has spoken about Kendrick Lamar and their cordial relationship with each other. Back in 2021, Hit-Boy credited Lamar for his help in writing the track Back In Traffic, naming him as the lyrics and melody writer for the track. Back In Traffic currently has more than 1.6 million views on YouTube.Alongside his work with Kendrick Lamar on Back In Traffic, Hit-Boy also produced the song Backseat Freestyle on Kendrick Lamar's good kid, m.A.A.d city record. In another interview with DJ Akademiks back in November 2022, Hit-Boy also wondered why he hadn't done more songs with the rapper:"I don’t be understanding how n***as don’t be having more songs, but it’s not up to me. It’s like n-ggas around n***as, whatever the f**k it is. It’s all love and respect, man. Kendrick know what the f**k he doing. If it’s meant for n***as to lock in, it’s gonna happen. But I do definitely one million fucking percent feel like it’s no way we ain’t gonna make some life-changing shit if we really do tap in."Kendrick Lamar @kendricklamarLINKNot Like Ushttps://t.co/QT59YqdUQ6Kendrick Lamar is currently on his GNX tourKendrick Lamar is currently on his GNX tour.
