Sam Rivers, bassist of the American nu metal band Limp Bizkit, has passed away.

The news was announced on Saturday, October 19, 2025, by his band on Instagram.

The band wrote in the caption:

“In Loving Memory of Our Brother, Sam Rivers. Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat. Sam Rivers wasn't just our bass player - he was pure magic. The pulse beneath every song, the calm in the chaos, the soul in the sound.”
“From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous.”

It added:

“We shared so many moments - wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones - and every one of them meant more because Sam was there.

The caption concluded:

“He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory. We love you, Sam. We'll carry you with us, always. Rest easy, brother. Your music never ends.”

For those unaware, Limp Bizkit is an American metal band founded in 1994 by Fred Durst, Sam Rivers, John Otto, and Wes Borland.

More details on Limp Bizkit’s Sam Rivers

American musician Sam Rivers was one of the founding members of Limp Bizkit, and after its split, Sam became a producer for local bands in Jacksonville. In 2015, he had to temporarily leave the band due to kidney problems.

He said:

"It got so bad I had to go to UCLA Hospital, and the doctor said, 'If you don't stop, you're going to die. And right now, you're looking like you need a new liver.'"

He eventually returned in 2018.

“I quit drinking and did everything the doctors told me. I got treatment for the alcohol and got a liver transplant, which was a perfect match. I'm back, and I feel amazing.“

Limp Bizkit’s first album, Three Dollar Bill, Y’all, was released in 1997, but the band gained recognition only after the release of its second and third studio albums.

The band boasts three Grammy nominations for Best Hard Rock Performance, Best Rock Album, and Best Hard Rock Performance. It also had three nominations for the American Music Awards. On May 26, 2001, Limp Bizkit was inducted into MTV's Total Request Live Hall of Fame.

1) Three Dollar Bill, Y'all

2) Significant Other

3) Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavoured Water

4) Results May Vary

5) Gold Cobra

6) Still Sucks
