What was Phil Lester’s initial impression of Dan Howell? YouTuber couple open up about first meeting weeks after revealing their romance

YouTuber couple Phil Lester and Dan Howell, who recently opened up their relationship, shared their impressions of each other on the latest episode of their Hard Launch podcast, released on October 28. The episode opened with Lester saying that he had a confession to make, to which Howell asked if he was breaking up with him. Phil said:

“I completely thought you catfished me when we first met. Because, listen to this. Dan was the last person to get off the train. Who gets off the train last?”

Dan argued with him, saying:

“If you get onto the train first at the station, because you don't want to do all that walking, you're going to have to do a dramatic walk down the platform later. If you are meeting your mysterious lover off the internet, don't you want them to do the longest walk down a train platform ever?”

Phil Lester said he stood there for five to ten minutes, to which Dan asked if Phil thought he was being stood up. Phil said Dan must have been inside the train’s washroom fixing his hat. Dan Howell was surprised that Phil thought this way. He said his hat he looked good in his trapper hat, while commenting:

“Well, I thought you were going to catfish me. This is like a rude personal attack.”

Dan Howell said that when he first met Phil Lester, he thought he was wearing a wig because he had dyed his hair again. Dan said the black was not like the natural chocolate color.

Dan Howell also said that the first time he saw Phil Lester, he tried to make eye contact but couldn’t stop noticing his head because his hair didn’t move with the wind. Phil said that he emptied an entire can of hairspray to make it perfect. Dan commented:

“Oh, you made such an effort to look nice that you actually looked almost dementedly perfect.”

Elsewhere in the podcast, Dan Howell said he felt their story was wholesome because they met through social media and had similar interests. He said they met via Skype to know that it wasn’t catfishing. He added:

“And so it felt okay to meet a stranger off the internet.”

Phil Lester mentioned that when the news broke out that they were together, people posted stories on them using their old photos in which they had “emo hair.” Dan said people needed to first seek permission before using the photos. He said:

“And so when you go to an event and people take Getty image photos, that is free for anyone to use forever. But the last time we were in our going to event era was when we had emo hair.”

Dan Howell said that not only that, but they also had terrible fashion sense. He said he disliked those photos so much that he wanted to get them off the internet.
