OpenAI has launched an artificial intelligence-powered web browser called ChatGPT Atlas. It is primarily available on macOS as of October 21, 2025. It has been positioned as a competitor to browsers such as Google Chrome.

According to OpenAI’s official website:

“A browser built with ChatGPT takes us closer to a true super-assistant that understands your world and helps you achieve your goals.”

The company further explained that ChatGPT Atlas will help, “in the window right where you are, understanding what you’re trying to do, and completing tasks for you, all without copying and pasting or leaving the page.”

The ChatGPT browser integrates the AI directly into the window, providing real-time insights when you read or research. ChatGPT Atlas is now available worldwide on macOS to all users, including Free, Plus, Pro, and Go. The browser is also available in beta for Business.

Let us understand its top five features.

Exploring ChatGPT Atlas’s top five features

OpenAI has released ChatGPT Atlas, an AI-powered browser that helps users access the AI chatbot to create summaries, ask questions, and complete tasks. During a livestream on October 21, 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said:

“We think that AI represents a rare once-a-decade opportunity to rethink what a browser can be about.”

He added:

“It’s got all your stuff, it’s clicking around for you, you can watch it. You don’t have to, but it’s really — it’s using the internet for you.”

The browser is equipped with memory, which helps it understand users and become more personalized over time. Let us see the top five features of ChatGPT Atlas:

Ask ChatGPT sidebar

The new browser includes an 'Ask ChatGPT' sidebar that appears alongside any webpage. This sidebar allows users to ask questions, summarize content, get explanations, draft text, and more without switching tabs.

Seamless assistance in writing

ChatGPT Atlas enables users to refine text without the hassle of copying and pasting. The browser offers in-line writing help where users can highlight text within forms, documents, or emails.

Agent mode

This feature allows ChatGPT to act as an autonomous agent, performing multi-step tasks within the browser on behalf of the user while keeping the user in full control. Users can perform tasks like adding items to a shopping cart, scheduling meetings, or compiling data from multiple documents.

Language browser control

This feature refers to the browser’s ability to accept natural language voice or text commands. Users can give instructions like “Close my recipe tabs” or “Reopen the travel site from yesterday,” and the browser will act accordingly.

Browser Memory

The Browser Memory feature allows the browser to remember and learn from your browsing history. It recalls the pages a user has visited and the tasks they have performed for a more personalized interaction in the future.
