Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5 recap: Tension between Hannah and Dean reach new heights

Chicago Med Season 11 gave the audience one of its more intense episodes yet with Dr. Hannah Asher and Dr. Dean Archer at loggerheads. Episode 5 titled ‘What's Hiding In The Dark’ saw the tension between the two reach new heights as they continue to bicker about everything regarding the pregnancy. Meanwhile, Charles treats a patient with a rare neurological condition, which makes him see monsters in people. Goodwin spends some quality time with Bert, but things take an unexpected turn.

Hannah and Dean clash on everything in Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5

Lenox gets an unexpected morning guest, her brother Kip. He reveals that he wants their mother’s ring to propose to his girlfriend. Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5 then takes the audience to the ultrasound room where expectant parents Hannah and Dean are waiting for the doctor to arrive.

It is Halloween, so there is a little bit silliness in the air as the doctor, unaware of the tension in the room, tries to create a lighter mood, but fails. While Dean wants to find the s*x of the baby, Hannah is against it and wants to keep it a surprise.

It is time for celebration for Charles, who is turning 65. His friends come to pay him a surprise visit in Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5. They gift him a set of golf clubs and hint at retirement. But Charles was not comfortable about the idea and he is back at his job doing what he loves.

Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5 gets a curious spooky case

Charles and Ripley meet a young patient who hurt himself at school after a bad fall. The boy is hiding himself inside his hoodie. When they try to talk to him, he starts freaking out and shouting that everyone is a monster. The teacher shares the details to Charles, when he notices a cut on her hand.

In Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5, Hannah and Dean learn that though everything is fine with the pregnancy, the doctor has spotted some abnormalities in tests. Hannah shares that she would rather wait and see instead of going through more tests, but a highly stressed Dean wants to take precautions. Hannah insists that as a doctor herself, she knows what she is doing with ‘her body’ but Dean is unhappy.

Charles speaks to the young boy’s teacher who tells him that he had been acting little strange for a few days and ended up stabbing her. She insists that he is a sweet boy and this is unlike him. Charles also learns that the child is in foster care and decides to look into his parents to figure out his odd behavior.

Charles realizes that Lucas has a rare condition known as Prosopometamorphopsia (PMO) or ‘Demon face syndrome’. He meets Lucas’s foster parents and learns that the boy has been having headaches. The boy had learnt that his biological parents wanted to regain his custody. Charles gives Lucas a special glass to reduce the effect of the disorder. It is revealed that his biological parents use to abuse him, which trigged the condition.

Charles will later put the golf clubs into the closet, signaling his intension to not hang up his boots yet.

Bert’s condition deteriorates in Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5

Bert is at the assisted living facility, where Goodwin is having a meal with him in Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5. Bert is not doing well and even gets angry at Goodwin, which upsets her. She later shares with Dean about Bert’s shocking outburst, and she is shameful that it affected her.

Lenox receives a patient, Jenny, who has been complaining of severe abdominal pain. Hannah suspects that the patient had a miscarriage. They later realize that she delivered the baby, but the patient denies it. This makes them to report the missing child. As Jenny is taken for surgery, she confesses to Kim Burgess that she buried the stillborn baby, which means that there will be legal repercussions waiting for her.

Later when Hannah asks Jenny about why she refused medical support through her ordeal, she reveals that she did not want to accept her pregnancy. It is a self-reflective moment for Hannah who is reluctant to go ahead with the tests as suggested by Dean. Hannah is finally coming to terms with the idea of being pregnant and what the future holds for her.

Ripley is out trick-or-treating with Sadie and daughter Emelia. Sadie shares that she is afraid for Emelia's safety and is highly protective of her. Ripley convinces her that he will watch over her.

At the end of Chicago Med Season 11 Episode 5, Goodwin gets a call from the assisted facility that Bert had taken a fall. As she comes to the place to check on Bert, she realizes that things could be turning for the worst.
