Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3 brought forth one of the more high-stakes cases that kept the beloved medical professionals at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital on their toes. The episode titled ‘Between two Lungs’ saw the team perform a risky lung transplant surgery, which could impact multiple lives. Bailey is facing a crucial dilemma while treating a trauma patient. Meanwhile, Teddy is ready to embrace a new relationship.

Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3 has the team ready to take on a high-risk transplant surgery

In the previous episode of Grey’s Anatomy Season 22, Ben was rightfully made the Chief Resident. And needless to say, he is more than delighted. He is also excited to be part of a transplant surgery.

One of the relationships that has been the recipient of much antipathy in Grey’s Anatomy Season 2 is Teddy and Owen. As Jo discusses lease negotiations for a car with Teddy, they meet Cass in the elevator. Teddy was not ready to admit to Cass that things are not as they seem and fakes that everything is fine with Owen.

Nick is at the hospital to take part in a lung transplant for a child, Ryan. Both parents of the child are donating a part of their lungs for the transplant. This is one of the highest-risk transplants the surgical team has ever faced. But there is hardly any time for them to consider other options, as a living donor is the only path to choose, as Nick will emphasize.

Bailey’s patient, Katie, who has been doing chemo for stage 2 gastric cancer, has been in an accident. The emergency room and the interns are left scrambling to figure out the next step.

Lucas struggles with the truth about Simone and Bryant in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3

Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3 also saw Bryant learning about Simone’s past with Lucas. He had learned it from Lucas himself, which explained his dismissive attitude toward him. While waiting for Katie to undergo an MRI, Bryant tries to mend the rift between them. He even attempts to bring up the fact that Lucas and Simone were on a break, but they’re soon called away to handle an emergency case that demands their full attention.

Elsewhere, Blue is at plastics, where he encounters someone he presumes to be an intern. Enter the latest plastics fellow, Dr. Kavita Mohanty. To be fair, she appears younger, and even the patient assumed the same. Things are on to a rocky start for the two.

After the rounds, Blue wants to stay away, but to his dismay, Simone and Jules will not take his place as they have their own work cut out for them. Blue is not having a good day, clearly. He continues to make errors, which only irritates Kavita.

The transplant surgery presents more complications in Grey's Anatomy Season 22, Episode 3

We learn early on in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3 that Bailey has been sheltering a secret from his mother Meredith, which Nick knows about. When Nick heads to the surgery, he requests that Meredith scrub in. But Nick stays tight-lipped about Bailey.

The transplant has the whole team on the edge as they wonder if this is the right course of action, a question that Winston and Meredith are seen pondering over. But Nick ascertains that despite the risks, this is the best option they have. Meredith even asserts that Nick’s opinion is secondary, as it is the parents who get to decide. The fathers chose to go ahead with the transplant surgery.

The nature of the surgery and the risk to the lives involved leave Winston anxious. Jules helps Winton understand the gravity of the situation and helps him through his apprehension.

Katie needs to get her chemo done, and due to the accident, things are not going as planned. In Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3, Bailey is at her best as she stays calm through it all. She realizes that Katie’s spleen needs to be removed. Lucas is disruptive during the surgery as he holds on to his animosity towards Bryant.

Teddy is still with Jo at the car dealership as the latter starts talking about Link’s condition. The conversation around children, however, distresses Teddy. She finally reveals the truth to Jo and tells her that she and Owen are going through a divorce. Teddy shares an emotional moment with Jo, who appears empathetic to her grim situation. She advises Teddy to put her happiness above all. Later, while Jo tries to negotiate for a car, it is Teddy who helps her out.

Meanwhile, in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3, the preparations for surgery are going on, and Ben learns the hard way that being Chief Resident means more work, something he didn’t anticipate. The surgery is paused when the patient’s white blood cell count drops to a dangerously low level, signaling a potential infection. The team decides to wait a few days for recovery before proceeding. However, Winston devises a solution that allows them to move forward with the operation, and it ultimately proves successful.

Bailey’s patient’s condition worsens in Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3

On the other side, Lucas has been the least helpful in Bailey’s surgery. Bailey needs to take control of the situation and decides to send Bryant on a task. While Bailey tries to take over from Lucas, he tells her that there are tumors on the liver, revealing that the cancer has spread.

Lucas and Bryant finally make peace, at least temporarily. When Katie is awake, they tell her about the tumor. Bailey appears worried, and Katie assumes that it is all over for her. However, Lucas keeps the hope alive.

Blue and Kavita are still at odds, as his mistake has resulted in her missing out on a date. Despite his apology, kind of, things are sour between the two. At the end of Grey's Anatomy Season 22 Episode 3, Teddy goes on to pick Cass for a date, and the two share a kiss, leaving their future in the show open-ended.
