High Potential Season 2 Episode 7 recap: Morgan and the team investigate an art heist

In the latest High Potential Season 2 episode and the mid-season finale, the team is working on a new case, an art heist. After a Rembrandt painting worth $20 million is stolen from a museum, Morgan, Adam, and the team are sent to look into it by Wagner.

As the story moves forward, the team learns that there have been more art heists like this over the years. They also learn about a thief called Jean Baptiste, who had been behind stolen paintings for a similar price. Furthermore, Episode 7 also highlights the team investigating the items in Roman's backpack without letting Captain Wagner know about it.

High Potential Season 2 Episode 7 recap: Investigation into the stolen Rembrandt painting

In Episode 7 of High Potential Season 2, the Rembrandt painting of Young Girl Leaning on a Windowsill is stolen. As the team goes to investigate the crime scene, they learn that the painting was worth $20 million. Morgan notices that the thief landed away from the painting, and even after being near more expensive paintings, they stole the Rembrandt painting, making her think it was not about money but might have a personal motive.

However, the art-recovery consultant that they hired, Rhys Eastman, thinks otherwise, resulting in Morgan and him getting into an argument. The investigation later takes them to the Fosters, who had lent the painting to the museum. Greg Foster also gives them a folder that has the names of all the past owners of the painting.

Later, they learn about the Wiseman family, particularly Ari Wiseman, who claimed that he is the real owner of the painting, making him one of the suspects.

High Potential Season 2 Episode 7 recap: Wagner scolds Morgan

Further in the High Potential Season 2 mid-season finale, Daphne learns that the thief used aluminium oxide to melt the glass roof to enter the museum. Oz shares that this was the same method used in a Rotterdam heist two years ago. Daphne's additional research in the case reveals that the same MO was used for almost 20 heists until now, and she came across the name of Jean-Baptiste, the name given to the thief due to the first stolen painting.

They also learn that Baptiste was shot in the shoulder five years ago while stealing another painting, which might help them identify the thief now. Further investigations led them to the name Ari Wiseman, who claimed that the Rembrandt painting belonged to him, but failed to prove it in court.

As they went to meet him, Ari's grandmother revealed that the painting was bought by her father in 1932. However, the Nazis took everything, and later they couldn't take the painting back due to having no way to prove that it belonged to them. However, Morgan is still suspicious of Ari as she learns that he is a gymnast and also visited the museum as per the logs.

Later, as Morgan and Rhys investigate the rooftop of the museum, Rhys is given an envelope with the photograph of the painting. On the back of the painting, there's an instruction about meeting someone at Woodley Park at 1 pm with $500,000 ransom money. This angers Wagner, and he reprimands Morgan for going there alone.

He then pulls her and Rhys out of the case, saying he and Karadec will handle the case as the consultants have done enough. This does not go well with Morgan, as she is angry with Wagner and goes out to have a drink with him, which gradually turns intimate between the two.

High Potential Season 2 Episode 7 recap: Morgan finds a gunshot wound on Rhys's shoulder, and an unknown man visits Arthur

While she vents about Wagner to Rhys in Episode 7 of High Potential Season 2, he also shares his heartfelt story with her. After drinking and talking to him, Morgan visits his hotel room, and they both get intimate. That's when she notices a gunshot wound in Rhys's shoulder, like Baptiste would have had.

On the other hand, Wagner tries to talk to Karadec and learn more about the Roman case, which the team had been secretive about. But didn't succeed in extracting any information. Furthermore, after a high-stakes chase, they still fail to catch up to the man whom they came to meet in Woodley Park.

Apart from the heist case, the team was also investigating Roman's backpack and noticed the photo of a man that they had not been able to identify yet. However, the same man is shown in the back of Arthur's car asking for Roman's backpack.
