The satirical public feud between Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon has been a running joke on Jimmy Kimmel Live! for two decades. The actor and the host love to tease each other and come up with creative ideas to keep the feud going.

In 2013, Damon took the joke to a whole new level when he took over the talk show for an episode and named it Jimmy Kimmel Sucks. The actor pretended to kidnap the host and placed him at the back of the stage, while he grabbed his seat and became the anchor for the day.

At the time, he also invited celebrity guests like Gary Oldman, Amy Adams, and Nicole Kidman for a chat, who all joined in on the joke. After having a conversation with Kidman, Damon welcomed Oldman to Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and said:

“Well, wait a minute. Well, ladies and gentlemen, Gary Oldman. This is amazing. All right, if you do what I do, this is a huge honor. So thank you for coming out here.”

Gary Oldman and Matt Damon then had a funny conversation, where the former claimed that he had never been to the show before, but the latter came up with proof that he had indeed made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier.

Meanwhile, poor Jimmy watched it all from the back while remaining duct taped to a wheelchair. During the episode, Damon also opened the show and took a friendly jibe at Jimmy by saying:

“Welcome to tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Sucks. I am your host, Matt Damon. Let me ask you this, as an audience is it weird to see a person with actual talent host this show?”

Apart from Gary Oldman, Amy Adams, and Nicole Kidman, Demi Moore and Reese Witherspoon also appeared in the episode, which gave Damon another opportunity to crack a joke on Jimmy as he said:

“Jimmy is always complaining about how hard it is it book celebrities on this show. We’re only halfway through and I’ve booked seven big celebrities — and that’s not even counting me!”

The satiric feud between the two started in 2005 when Kimmel ended his show with the statement, ‘Apologies to Matt Damon, we ran out of time.’ It was a random joke, but audiences loved it, so Kimmel kept repeating it.

Damon, who had not met Kimmel, later said his name was picked ‘out of thin air,’ which sparked a hilarious rivalry between the two. At the end of the special episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! In 2013, Damon gave a callback to how it all began as he told Jimmy:

“Is there anything you want to say before we wrap things up? Wait, I’m sorry, we’re out of time.”

The joke has continued even after the episode. Over the years, Jimmy Kimmel and Matt Damon have taken shots at each other through sketches, award show pranks, and surprise appearances, which have been loved by the audience.
