After being a part of constant internet chatter throughout the year, The Witcher Season 4 is finally out. The Netflix epic fantasy series has the internet divided over the controversial recasting of Liam Hemsworth, who replaced Henry Cavill. But now that's done, Hemsworth will take up the mantle from Cavill for the fourth and fifth seasons of The Witcher, which is also its last.

Thus, there's hype around the fourth season, which will also set up the fifth season of the fantasy epic. But as the fourth season is upon us, some wonder how much of it was shot in practical locations and how much of it was green screen. Turns out some of The Witcher Season 4 was actually shot in England. The official synopsis for the upcoming season reads:

"After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they encounter unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. And if they can accept these found families, they just might have a chance at reuniting for good…"

The Witcher Season 4 filming locations revealed:

Here are some of The Witcher Season 4 filming locations:

  • Longcross Studios, Longcross, Surrey

Longcross Studios has been one of the core filming locations for the fantasy epic for a while, which is why it isn't surprising that it was one of The Witcher Season 4 filming locations. The studio continued to house the set for the mage chambers and the Nilfgaardian Palace.

  • Puzzlewood, Coleford

An ancient woodland, Puzzlewood, which is located near the idyllic town of Coleford, is a beloved tourist destination across the UK. It seems that the expansive jungle stretches even up to the Longcross Studios. In addition to The Witcher Season 4, Iconic science-fiction projects like Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Doctor Who were filmed in this forest.

But Puzzlewood is known for inspiring not one but two influential book series of the 20th century. Legend has it that it inspired J. R. R. Tolkien to write the iconic The Lord of the Rings. Decades later, the woodland also served as an influence for The Forbidden Forest, which surrounds Hogwarts in the Harry Potter books. In the fourth season, it may serve as a background for scenes where Geralt and his hansa (the in-universe term for fellowship) hunt monsters or meet others.

  • The Crystal Grotto, Painshill Park

Nestled inside the confines of Painshill, the Crystal Grotto is known for its crystalline-rich rock formations. The production team filmed some scenes inside this cave, but it currently remains unknown which scenes were filmed here. However, die-hard fans of the Andrzej Sapkowski novels have theorized that the grotto may serve as a background for an Avallac’h and Geralt scene.

  • Haytor Rocks and Quarry, Dartmoor National Park

Found inside the Dartmoor National Park, the scenic location will probably serve as a background for scenes in which the characters ride horses. However, several other locations inside Dartmoor may have served as filming locations for the fourth season. But, as of now, the Haytor Rocks are confirmed to be one of the filming locations.

  • Muslim Burial Ground and Peace Garden, Woking

A memorial to the Muslim soldiers who fought in the two World Wars as a part of the Colonial Indian Army, today, it also functions as a peace garden. The production team may have used this monument to film some exterior shots in the upcoming season.

The Witcher's fourth season is currently accessible via streaming on Netflix.
